Meet Jhay.
Jhay is a collection community member living in Tanay, Philippines, where he has worked as a collector for the past five years. As a husband and father, he works hard each day to earn an income that helps provide food, groceries, and rice for his family. When he can, he also sets aside money to buy small gifts for his children.
For Jhay, collecting plastic is about more than earning an income. By removing waste from the environment, he helps prevent plastic from clogging canals, rivers, and waterways, contributing to cleaner surroundings for his community. He believes that when waste is not properly managed, entire communities can be affected.
Through Plastic Bank, Jhay has also received rice incentives and accident insurance, which he says has been a significant help to his family.
Above all, Jhay dreams of seeing his children finish school and have opportunities for a brighter future. He hopes they will not have to experience the same hardships he faced growing up.
