Last month, the newly rebranded New Hampshire (NH) Recycles (formerly NRRA – Northeast Resource Recovery Association) hosted their annual recycling conference & expo.  With nearly 300 attendees, including our very own Alec Cooley, presentations and discussions regarding the changing landscapes of recycling and waste management were held.  Described as “well-organized, well-run, and very informative”, this gathering of recycling minds provided attendees with new connections, insights, and new information to help in advancing sustainable practices. The Carton Council, a coalition of four leading carton manufacturers, came together with the premise of developing an education and infrastructure with regards to proper carton recycling techniques.  In doing so, to boost sustainability efforts, they are offering a $5000 grant for K-12 schools in the United States and Canada for the purpose of enhancing or expanding existing carton recycling programs. The School Compost & Recycling Action Plan Institute, also known as “SCRAPI”, is an institute working to assist students in Vermont on learning about sustainability, the tools they require, and devising action plans to work on reducing waste created in schools.  As reported by NBC5 News, this program will provide a minimum of $3000 for their project that has sustainability in mind or a sustainable related goal.
