At Busch Systems, we believe that sustainability starts with passion. Sometimes, that passion comes from industry leaders, educators, and environmental advocates. And sometimes, it comes from a five-year-old boy in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.
Meet Himmat Rai.
Earlier this year, Himmat captured hearts across Canada when his love for recycling made headlines. Unlike most children his age, Himmat doesn’t just recycle; he lives and breathes it. His enthusiasm for waste diversion and environmental stewardship became so well known that he chose to celebrate his fifth birthday at his local recycling depot, surrounded by friends, family, and fellow recycling enthusiasts. His story quickly gained national attention and became an inspiring reminder that sustainability has no age limit.
When the team at Busch Systems heard Himmat’s story, we knew we wanted to do something special.
To celebrate his incredible passion for recycling and environmental responsibility, we put together a customized package of Busch Systems swag designed especially for him. The surprise included a personalized kitchen composter, a Busch Systems tote bag, recycling bin keychains, a miniature recycling bin, a mini green bin composter, and a collection of other recycling-themed goodies.

For many children, these might seem like unusual gifts. For Himmat, they were perfectly aligned with what he loves most.
What makes Himmat’s story so inspiring isn’t just his knowledge of recycling; it’s the genuine excitement he brings to helping the environment. His curiosity, enthusiasm, and commitment serve as a powerful reminder that sustainability education can begin at any age. By encouraging children to engage in recycling and waste reduction early, we help build habits that can last a lifetime.
Stories like Himmat’s remind us why we do what we do. Every recycling station, compost bin, and waste diversion solution we create is designed to make sustainable choices easier for people of all ages. Seeing young environmental champions embrace those values gives us hope for the future.
We’re incredibly proud to support and celebrate individuals who share our passion for creating cleaner communities and a more sustainable world.
Thank you, Himmat, for showing all of us that recycling can be more than a responsibility; it can be a source of joy, curiosity, and inspiration.
Keep up the amazing work. The future of recycling is in good hands.
