What is the Greenhouse Gas Protocol?

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) is an internationally recognized framework for measuring, managing, and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Developed through a partnership between the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), it provides standardized methodologies for organizations, governments, and businesses to account for emissions consistently and transparently.

Want to Know More

The GHG Protocol establishes global standards for calculating emissions across three scopes: Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned or controlled sources), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased energy), and Scope 3 (other indirect emissions, such as supply chain and product use). It is widely used for corporate reporting, product carbon footprints, and policy development. By following the GHG Protocol, organizations can identify emissions hotspots, track progress toward climate goals, and ensure comparability and credibility of reported data.
