What is an Aerated Static Pile or ASP Composting?

Aerated Static Pile (ASP) composting is a method of decomposing organic waste in large, static piles where air is supplied through perforated pipes or blowers to maintain aerobic conditions and accelerate composting.

Want to Know More

ASP composting is widely used in municipal and commercial facilities because it eliminates the need for frequent pile turning while allowing better control over temperature, moisture, and oxygen. ASP systems can use passive aeration, where air moves naturally through the pile, or active aeration, where fans or blowers force air to control decomposition. This method efficiently processes food scraps, yard trimmings, and other organic waste, producing nutrient-rich compost and reducing odors and greenhouse gas emissions.
