Implementing Centralized Waste Collections

Original air date: Tues Oct 17th, 2023 at 1:00pm ET

Description:

Centralized collection arrangements have been shown to dramatically improve waste diversion and reduce costs in office and meeting room settings. But implementing this model, which shifts responsibility for handling personal waste from custodians to individuals, requires careful planning and has the potential to generate resistance. From conducting pilot tests to consulting stakeholders and planning a roll-out communication strategy, there are time-tested steps involved with launching a successful centralized collection system.

This webinar featured private and public sector case study presentations – from Joanie Burns (Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability Manager @ Amgen) and Raene Barber (Sustainability Engineer @ City of Lethbridge, AB) – showing how different organizations arrange their office waste collection programs, along with the positive differences implementing centralized waste collection has made.
