Waste reduction advocates have sought for years to move beyond recycling to advance practices that reduce waste at its source. While programs to keep durable items out of the landfill have found some success, it’s been much harder to implement initiatives that systematically displace single-use packaging with reusable alternatives on a wide-scale.
