DEVELOP YOUR OFFICE RECYCLING PROGRAM BEFORE THE FALL BEGINS

Every office should have an effective recycling program. Whether you are just beginning or have been working on yours for years, here are some pointers to help develop your office recycling program. Materials that should be separated and recycled include:

  • Office Paper
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Glass Containers
  • Newspaper and Magazines
  • Plastic Bottles
  • Cardboard Boxes (Flattened)

How to make your program a success:

  • Assess the waste being collected across your office.
  • Develop a recycling program based on your findings for each area. Be sure to concentrate on areas producing the highest amounts of waste, i.e. next to the photocopier, deskside, lunchroom, etc.
  • Ensure all containers are located in easy-access areas and are properly marked. Containers with specialized openings (i.e. hole for cans, slot for paper) are critical to maintain clean sorts.
  • Educate employees on proper recycling procedures. This can be easily accomplished through posters or a memo while distributing containers. Explain the goals of the program and procedures. Be sure to provide recycling information to new employees. Use multiple forms of communication to get the word on recycling out there (i.e. emails, flyers, etc.). Remind employees to keep food waste out of recycling containers and trash.
  • If possible, record the volume of recyclables departing the office building through a log system. Depending on your system and size of the office, this enables you to receive accurate compensation for the materials you have recovered.
  • Once policies have been established, communicate the program to all staff responsible for collecting recyclables and waste in your office. Demonstrate how to use each container and where to take all collected materials. Have the staff assist in monitoring the program.

Office Recycling Areas & Collectables

  • Administrative & Office Areas
Office paper, corrugated cardboard, other paper, cans, bottles and toner cartridges.
  • Food Service Areas
Glass, metal, cans, plastic containers and corrugated cardboard.
  • Public Areas
    Newspaper, magazines, bottles and cans.

Did You Know?

  • Up to 93% of all office waste is made up of paper and 77% of that paper waste is recyclable.
  • On average a business office can generate close to 1.5 lbs. of waste paper per employee each day and financial offices generate over two pounds per employee daily.
  • It is possible to significantly reduce the cost of office supply paper by minimizing use and reusing paper.
  • Up to 50% of your waste bill can be reduced by recycling office paper.
  • 6.7 cubic yards of landfill space can typically be saved by recycling one ton of paper.
  • 40% of waste being land filled comes from commercial and residential paper waste.
  • Eliminating office paper from our waste would nearly double the lives of current landfills.

We at Busch Systems would be happy to assist you with your recycling program. Please contact us for more program ideas and recycling container solutions.

SORT & TRANSPORT CENTRALIZED CONTAINERS

Where do you recycle in your office? Have you ever needed to move your containers around? Busch Systems is now carrying the Recycling & Waste Sorting Carts. Perfect for collecting and sorting various recyclables, the heavy-duty steel frame with dual handles maneuvers easily through narrow hallways and tight corners.

The center-mounted wheels with slightly elevated end casters allow the cart to spin on its own radius. With two models available, the Recycling & Waste Sorting Carts can hold two or three 26 US Gallon Upright Containers. These recycling containers are form fitted to the cart frame and come with galvanized wire handles for simple lifting and carrying. The handles also double as cover locks. Add on customized lids with special openings to ensure a cleaner sort of recyclables. Openings can include a slot for paper or round hole for cans and bottles. CITY FINDS SOLUTION TO RECYCLING CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENTS

With the growing need to secure confidential information, this large Canadian municipality was faced with the challenge of collecting and properly recycling fine paper waste. Standard recycling containers just would not do, so the City’s Environment Division examined other container systems and possibilities.

The paper collection containers had to be highly visible, easily accessible and provide security measures for confidentiality protection.  They also had to be compact enough to allow storage in smaller office locations. They soon discovered the Document Destruction Cabinets from Busch Systems, which provided an easy and secure way for their departments to recycle their fine paper internally.  The units were small enough to fit into all departmental offices and enabled the recycling program to collect approximately 40.68 tones or 40,680 kilograms of fine paper in 2004.

“We have found Busch Systems very cooperative and helpful through their attentive customer service.  Their extensive product line has offered quality solutions for the City’s developing recycling program.  Our Document Destruction Cabinets have stood the test of constant usage and have remained durable delivering improved collection results.  Busch Systems has been wonderful to work with and always understanding of our busy schedules and growing needs.”

REDESIGNED WALL BRACKETS NOW HOLD OFFICE CONTAINERS

Our Wall Brackets have been redesigned to be more modular and durable while remaining an innovative space saving device for recycling containers. Space is a commodity in any office environment, home and high traffic area. Originally designed for curbside bins, the Wall Brackets enable easy collection of recyclables, waste and documents for security and destruction purposes while keeping the container out of the way and at an accessible reaching distance. With the Wall Brackets mounted exactly 14 inches apart, they can now securely hold the 9 Gallon Container and Personal Document Container (PDC) from Busch Systems.  The Wall Brackets can be quickly and easily installed with just two screws fastened into a stud. The container lip rests over the top of the Wall Brackets and makes it easy to lift the bin off while remaining stable during collection.

The Personal Document Container, also known as the PDC, was designed for office use. This 9 Gallon container is ideal for more centralized areas like next to the photocopier or fax machine for disposal of confidential documents. The sturdy lid makes tampering nearly impossible, yet it is easy to unlock and empty when full.
