Barrie, Ontario, December 15, 2011 — E-waste is a growing concern with environmental groups around the world. Unfortunately, less than 20% of all e-waste in North America is recycled as it instead finds its way into our landfills. In an effort to promote the collection and recycling of e-waste, Busch Systems is offering customized e-waste collection containers for recycling programs in North America.

“One of the things keeping e-waste recycling rates down was the lack of true e-waste recycling bins”, states Serena Brooks, Sales Manager for Busch Systems International, a leading manufacturer of recycling, waste and compost bins. “By offering to customize recycling containers into e-waste bins, we are hoping to increase the recycling rates of electronics such as cell phones”.

With people constantly upgrading to the latest and greatest cell phones and hand-held devices on the market, there are growing amounts of discarded cell phones ending up in landfills. By providing customized recycle bins as an easy solution for this type of collection, Busch Systems aims to increase overall recycling rates.

Busch Systems has previously customized secure document collection consoles into cell phone ‘drop boxes’. These modifications were made for universities and colleges who seem to be leading the way in regard to cell phone collection and recycling. In addition, Busch Systems also customizes lockable desk side containers into cell phone recycling bins as an alternative option.

“We are willing to work with any customers in an effort to customize recycling bins into viable e-waste collection options”, states Brooks. “The more e-waste that we recycle, means less e-waste ends up in our landfills. It’s just the right thing to do”.

Recycling programs are being implemented in offices and schools at an incredible rate due to increased resources available for both pick up and processing. Awareness of potential cost benefits and positive environmental impact are being realized and therefore the initial program start-up costs are no longer frightening away the ‘green’ in people. Indoor recycling container options are plentiful in the eco-friendly marketplace so choosing the best recycle bin to suit your needs requires proper research and education.

Interchangeable Openings Keep Your Recycling Program Fresh!

A great starting point is giving preference to recycle bins that are made with recycled content, starting your green initiative off right! There are some other important things to consider when purchasing new indoor recycling & waste bins. Providing an entire recycling & waste station to your participants is imperative. Should you choose to only have a recycling container available, you are more apt to find trash within – thus contaminating your recyclables. If you are starting a new program you may want to purchase an indoor sorting station that has interchangeable openings. Purchasing an indoor recycling container with interchangeable openings gives your program the flexibility to evolve without encountering high recycling container replacement costs. Openings that are color coded and appropriately shaped will help guide the user into placing their items in the correct streams.

Great Signage Makes All the Difference in the World!

Another important feature of an effective recycling bin is proper signage. Participants may require additional information as to which items are accepted within each opening. Providing this education will not only increase your overall participation rates but also help to reduce contamination, thereby maintaining the value of your recyclables. Some recycling containers will give you the flexibility to change out your custom signage to keep your message fresh or keep up with any changes to your stream collection.

Durability is another feature not to be overlooked. While recycle containers will not last forever, there are certainly ones that will last longer than others. Rotationally molded units will not rust or dent. Many rotationally molded products are available in stone finishes which are not only aesthetically pleasing but will also hide any dirt or scratches caused from general wear and tear, therefore keeping up the overall pleasant appearance of your recycling program.

Lockable Recycling Station sKeep Your Recyclables Safe!

The other side of the process to consider is the emptying of the units. Using lockable recycling & waste containers that are keyed alike will save time while keeping your valuable recyclables safe! No longer will your custodial staff fumble with multiple keys to find that lucky one. Front door access allows for a quick emptying process while avoiding unnecessary back strain caused by heavy lifting. To additionally avoid awkward and potentially harmful container emptying, units should include liners with an easy handling capacity.

So before rushing out to purchase your recycling containers please take all of these pointers into consideration to increase your chances of having an effective and overall successful recycling program. It really is easy being green!

I am the Creative Director at Maxi Container. We specialize in Reuse and creating Recycling systems for our Industrial Customers. Recently we moved to a wonderful new facility. I wanted our office and warehouse atmosphere to better reflect the idea of reuse and recycling. Previously we were actually located in Detroit, which does not offer much (if any) options for recycling. We worked in an old antiquated building and we needed a new space desperately.

I met Cassidy LeMoine at the 2011 Michigan Recycling Coalition (MRC) Annual Conference in East Lansing. The products intrigued me and Cassidy was knowledgeable and helped answer my questions. I followed up with a quick email and the next day, I rushed back down to the exhibitor’s hall to let her know we would be very interested in working together!

Multi-Recycler Bins at Maxi Container Office

We are now in our new facility and finally have a Recycling System setup. I specially designed the system with their help and with our company’s individual waste stream in mind. We are currently recycling:

Paper (cardboard, mixed mail, and shredded)

Plastic (water bottles, knives, forks etc…)

Styrofoam (coffee cups, to-go boxes)

Cans & Bottles (aluminum, glass)

Busch made us custom artwork for the Styrofoam plus they helped me coordinate EVERYTHING!!! I couldn’t have asked for better customer support. We now have multiple stations setup strategically around the office. Also, every office staff member had to trade in their trash can for a Desksiderwith a tiny hanging “Waste Only” basket. This visually sends a message to visitors

and makes sure that the paper gets recycled. For staff that handles confidential documents we provided a PDC (Personal Document Collector) which has a locking lid. Next to the fax machine, we have a Shredinator to collect junk faxes and copies.

Busch Systems' Waste Watchers in Maxi Container Lunch Room

The lunchroom / break room is usually the largest collection area for recycling systems. We decided to use the Waste Watchers with the connector kit. All have gray bodies but with different openings and colors for the lids. The signage makes sure that the sort is accurate. I have been very pleased within these first few weeks to see that they are WORKING!!! What else could I ask for?

Additionally we decided to invest in two Super Sorters for outside. I noticed since moving to the new building that trash accumulates around people’s cars. They make it easy to dispose of the soda, juice, and water bottles that build up in your car. I have to say that these two Super Sorters in Greenstone are definitely the most attractive outside recycling bins I’ve seen.

I have one additional statement…. I love all of Busch System’s products. At home I am utilizing the Multi-Recycler and today, (Friday) at the end of day we will distribute one to each employee with a memo about our recycling initiative.

Busch keeps me in the loop with updates on new products, as well as interacts on Social Media with us. Overall I have to say that if more companies were like Busch and Maxi then business would run a lot smoother. My “Hats off to you” and on behalf of all of us here at Maxi I want to say “Thank you!”.

Sincerely,

Joshua R.

People who use the Greenfield Farms soccer field in Bedford, NH can now “go green” at any time! In July, 2011, the Greenfield Farms Goes Green committee installed a recycling container from Busch Systems for bottles and cans at the town soccer field on Greenfield Parkway in Bedford. The recycling container will remind people of the importance of keeping the area clean, and provide a convenient way to recycle those bottles and cans that seem to get left on the ground.

The recycling container is for plastic and glass bottles and aluminum cans only. These are the most common types of litter found in the area. With the fall soccer season about to start, the committee hopes that people use the recycle container and support the neighborhood’s efforts to keep the area free of litter.

Event Recycling Container

The committee organizes a clean-up day each year in their development. The event brings residents out to clean up litter and debris on roadsides and the many acres of common land throughout the development, which has over 200 homes. The committee was able to keep their “go green” theme going all year through the addition of the Busch Systems recycling bin. “We also hope the recycle bin reminds every one, young and old, of the importance of preserving public lands. We care about where we live, and we hope other people who use the area take care,” states the committee chair.

We are a governmental agency that provides recycling collection, education and grants to increase awareness and participation in recycling and preserve landfill space. To further that mission we ordered three sets of the Busch Systems Waste Watcher Centralized Collection recycling containers for our office to increase recognition of our recycling efforts. One of the main reasons we chose Busch Systems was its commitment to sustainability and the fact all of the products contain a minimum of 35% recycled content. The new recycling containers replaced generic 14-gallon curbside bins and brought consistency to our message. We have been using the Waste Watcher recycling containers for about two months and are extremely satisfied with their performance.

The best part of the Busch Systems Waste Watcher recycling containers was our ability to personalize the labels and look of the containers to suit our needs. The graphic design team at Busch Systems worked with us to customize the lid labels for both paper & co-mingled recycling and waste as well as including our logo on it and also having stickers put on the sides of the containers for better name recognition. This was very important to us since we recently created a new logo and have been striving for consistency in the promotion of our recycling programs.

Custom Recycling Signs

Our new Waste Watcher recycling containers got such a positive reception at our first board meeting after receiving the containers that we are planning to order 15 additional sets to provide at each of the three county administrative offices. The functionality and nice look of the containers really is a value added benefit and will continue to improve our recognition and recycling efforts in the community for years to come!

Barrie, Ontario, September 27, 2011— With recycling becoming more and more prominent in every facet of our lives, the need for more diverse recycling container options has come to the forefront. Busch Systems, the leader in recycling, compost and waste containers has introduced a new recycling container called the Billi Box to the market. This compact recycling bin comes in either 7 gallon or 10 gallon sizes and incorporates different openings based on which recyclables or waste are to be collected.

“This is a first for the recycling industry”, states Busch Systems Sales manager, Serena Brooks. “In the past, there have been larger recycling bins with openings and labels but the more compact office and deskside recycling containers have never been labelled or fitted with different openings. Now they are.”

By offering a compact option of recycling container with appropriate labels and openings, Busch Systems is allowing recycling programs across North America to properly communicate the right message to people in regard to which recyclables go in which containers.

“The key to a clean sort is clear labels and openings”, states Brooks. With the new Billi Boxes, Busch Systems is once again leading the way in regard to design and innovation in the hopes of expanding recycling efforts worldwide.

Barrie, Ontario, September 22, 2011— As recycling programs are implemented in more and more municipalities and with recycling becoming a part of our everyday lives, the time has come to “clean up” the look of our recycling collection programs.

Busch Systems, the leading manufacturer of recycling, compost and waste containers has announced a new line of recycling bins that are meant to complement any urban setting and add the element of aesthetics to municipal collection programs across North America.

“Recycling collection isn’t limited to the blue box anymore”, states Serena Brooks, Sales manager at Busch Systems. “With this new line of recycling collection bins, your recycling program can now be clean, decorative and pleasing to any urban setting such as a park or public area.”

The new line of recycling containers includes the Urbin and Urbin2 recycling bins which have rounded tops to prevent the collection of trash on top of the units. In addition, the high density plastic mimics the look of concrete to help blend into any urban setting. The Classic unit gives the impression of wrought iron with the durability of high density plastic. The Pole-X can be mounted for easy access and clean collection.

By adding the element of aesthetics to recycling, the idea is to increase collection rates through the wider implementation of recycling programs.

States Brooks, “If your recycling bins look good, your recycling program looks good. It’s a key to success”.
